Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Edwardian serving trays from the early 20th century typically combine refined woodwork, intricate marquetry or string inlay, and often feature pierced silver-plated galleries or brass mounts, reflecting the opulent yet elegant tastes of the period.

These pieces were generally crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, satinwood, or walnut, featuring contrasting light and dark veneers for inlay work, paired with copper, brass, or silver-plated copper for the gallery rails and handles.

Authenticity is determined by hand-cut dovetails or joins, natural ageing and patina on the silver plating, traditional hand-inlaid wood marquetry rather than printed decals, and construction methods consistent with early 20th-century manufacture.

An antique wooden tray serves as a functional display base on a coffee table, ottoman, or sideboard to group smaller objects like glassware, decanters, or seasonal botanicals, adding texture and historical contrast to contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires dusting the wood with a dry microfibre cloth and applying appropriate wax polish sparingly. Silver-plated elements should be cleaned gently with a non-abrasive silver cleaner, avoiding harsh chemical dips to protect the surrounding wood and veneer.
