This seventeenth-century Jacobean architectural salvage object is an English country house oak panel finished in a dark brown colour. The rectangular timber panel features a hand-carved diamond lozenge border enclosing a stylised central floral daisy motif, alongside incised lunettes and a beaded border, complemented by visible grain, surface marks, and an aged patina. Measuring 39.5 cm high, 33 cm wide, and 1 cm deep, the panel is suited for display on a narrow wall space in a hallway or study. Homeowners today can hang the panel directly on a living room or bedroom wall as a standalone decorative architectural element.

A 17th-century carved oak panel is a decorative wooden section originally created for wainscoting, joined chests, coffers, or overmantels during the Jacobean and Carolean eras.

These panels were hand-planed and carved from solid English or European oak using chisels and gouges, often set into framed structures using mortise and tenon joinery secured with wooden pegs.

Authentic period panels display uneven hand-tool marks on the reverse, natural shrinkage along the timber grain, uneven wear patterns, and dark oxidised patina in the crevices of the carving.

An antique oak panel can be mounted as framed wall art, integrated into bespoke modern cabinetry, or displayed on a mantlepiece or picture ledge to add historic texture.

Keep the panel clean by dusting with a soft-bristled brush, apply a light coat of natural beeswax sparingly once a year, and preserve it away from direct heat sources or high humidity.
