A nest of tables, comprising a set of graduated tables designed to fit beneath one another, became popular during the Georgian period and evolved through the Victorian and Edwardian eras as a versatile space-saving solution for entertaining.

These tables were traditionally crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or satinwood, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, subtle inlay work, and polished timber surfaces.

Authentication involves examining timber grain consistency, construction methods such as hand-cut joinery, the presence of period-appropriate oxidisation and wear, and subtle irregularities indicative of hand-craftsmanship rather than modern machinery.

An antique nest of tables can be positioned beside a modern sofa to introduce warmth and historical contrast, either stacked to save space or separated to display decorative objects.

Preservation requires keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the polished surface.
