An antique tea caddy is a small storage container historically used to store dry tea leaves securely when tea was an expensive commodity, often featuring a fitted lid to preserve freshness and aroma.

Eighteenth-century tea caddies were crafted from a variety of luxury materials, including fine Chinese export porcelain, various hardwoods such as mahogany and burr walnut, metals like pewter and silver, and tortoiseshell.

Authentication involves examining the glaze consistency, hand-painted details, wear patterns on the base, paste composition, and characteristic firing imperfections typical of early manufacturing techniques.

These pieces can be displayed on mantelpieces, open shelving, or sideboards as curated objets dart, adding historical texture and refined colour accents to contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires keeping the pieces away from direct sunlight, avoiding abrasive cleaning agents, washing gently by hand only when necessary with lukewarm water, and handling them carefully by the body rather than delicate lids.
