Late 19th century circa 1880 gilt gold leaf Watts frame.

With running pattern to top edge outer edge and shot inner edge.

Size: To fit painting/Mirror size: 24"x 36".

Rebate size: 24 3/8"x 36 3/8". Depth: 3".

Sight size: 23 5/8"x 35 5/8".

Overall size: 35 1/4"x 47 1/4".

In good condition. Original gold leaf with good age related wear.

FAQs

Nineteenth-century gilt frames are characterised by hand-applied gold leaf over a gesso and wooden substrate, often featuring classical moulding patterns and deep profiles popular in Victorian and Regency interiors.

These frames typically consist of a softwood or hardwood core, such as pine or oak, coated with layers of gesso (a mixture of plaster and glue) which was then carved, moulded, and gilded with gold leaf or metal leaf.
