This Georgian tripod tilt-top table dates from the 18th century and is made of dark brown mahogany with brass fittings. The piece has a circular one-piece top resting on a turned central pedestal with tripod cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, and includes the original catch for the tilt-top action. The dimensions are 70 cm high, 69 cm wide, and 69 cm deep, providing a compact surface suitable for placement at the end of a sofa in a living room or study. The dark wood finish shows a warm patina across the circular surface and turned stem, while the three curved legs provide a stable base for everyday use as an occasional table. This functional English country house style table integrates easily into traditional or contemporary interiors to hold a lamp, book, or small decorative item.

A Georgian tilt-top table features a circular surface supported by a central turned pedestal resting on a three-legged base. Designed in the 18th century, the top hinges vertically, allowing the piece to be stored flat against a wall when not in active use.

These tables were primarily crafted from solid dense mahogany, characterised by hand-turned central balusters and dovetail or latch mechanisms beneath the top. The tripod bases feature three cabriole legs jointed directly into the base of the column, often supported by iron bearer plates underneath.

Authentic period examples display hand-cut brass or iron catch mechanisms, hand-planed timber surfaces, and original block hinges. The specific proportion of the turnings, construction of the leg dovetails, and natural oxidisation on unpolished areas beneath the top also indicate age.

Position the table beside an armchair as an occasional drink surface or place it in an alcove to display a table lamp or ceramic vase. Its compact footprint enables seamless layering alongside contemporary upholstered furniture.

Clean the timber surface using a dry lint-free cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year along the grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and extreme changes in humidity to prevent wood movement or splitting.
