Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Art Nouveau centre table from 1900 is fashioned from mahogany, walnut, and wood veneer in a warm brown tone with a polished finish. The piece comprises a rectangular parquetry top set above a frieze decorated with carved whiplash motifs, supported by four curved serpentine legs that meet at a central X-stretcher base. Signs of age include minor surface wear and small areas of edge scuffing along the wooden trim. The table measures 75.5 cm high, 105.5 cm wide, and 143 cm deep. Positioned in a gentleman's library or study, the table functions as a central writing desk or display surface for books and decorative objects. The open space beneath the top and around the stretcher allows for comfortable seating when used as a working surface, while the low profile provides adequate clearance for chairs.

FAQs

Art Nouveau furniture is characterised by flowing, sinuous lines inspired by nature, often incorporating plant stalks, flower buds, and whiplash curves into the structural woodwork.

Craftsmen predominantly used fine hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and oak, frequently embellished with intricate wood parquetry, marquetry veneers, and bronze or brass mounts.

Authentic pieces feature asymmetrical organic carving, seamless integration between leg supports and the table frieze, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and an uneven aged surface patina.

Position the table as a focal point in a large foyer, hallway, or open-plan living room, pairing it with neutral contemporary seating to highlight the sculpted wooden details.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, applying natural beeswax occasionally along the wood grain, and avoiding exposure to direct sunlight or heat sources.
