This Masonic gentleman's walking stick, dating from the Victorian period around 1910, combines a dark brown rosewood shaft with a silver-toned metal pommel handle. The silver grip has a diameter of 4.2 cm and features engraved Masonic symbols alongside visible dings from age and use, leading down to a tapered shaft measuring 3 cm in diameter near the top and narrowing to 2 cm near the tip. The entire piece has a total length of 95 cm with a metal ferrule at the base, and incorporates a silver-coloured collar ring separating the handle from the wooden body. In a modern interior, it functions as a collector's piece or a decorative accessory beside the front door in a gentleman's library, hallway, or study.

A Masonic walking stick is a ceremonial or dress cane decorated with engraved symbols, such as the Square and Compasses, associated with Freemasonry. Popular in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these canes were carried by members to denote their fraternal affiliations.

Victorian walking sticks were commonly constructed using shafts of hardwood such as ebony, rosewood, oak, or malacca. Handles and pommels were often fashioned from silver, nickel, brass, horn, or bone, featuring ornate chasing or engraving.

Authentic Masonic canes feature iconography specific to the order, such as the compasses, square, letter G, or star motifs, typically engraved or inlaid on the handle or collar. Period-correct construction details, silver hallmarks, and natural age-related patination also assist in identification.

Designers frequently display collections of antique canes upright in brass or ceramic umbrella stands within entryways and foyers. Individual canes can also be mounted on walls horizontally or resting on bookshelves within study and library settings.

The wooden shaft should be kept away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking and treated with a neutral microcrystalline wax. Metal handles should be gently wiped with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip historical patina.
