Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian occasional table is an English Country House side table from 1875, rendered in warm brown burr walnut with fruitwood and kingwood inlay, boxwood inlay, and a polished finish. The top displays a scalloped shape with a moulded lip and continuous arabesque boxwood inlay, surmounting a central spiral twist column and a carved tripod base with acanthus leaf decoration. The table stands 72.5 cm high, 52 cm wide, and 52 cm deep. Suitable for placement at the end of a sofa, this piece serves as a practical surface for resting drinks, books, or decorative objects in a living room, drawing room, or hallway. The stable tripod footprint ensures it sits securely on flat floors while occupying minimal floor space in domestic settings.

FAQs

Victorian burr walnut occasional tables are characterised by highly figured walnut root veneers, intricate floral or arabesque marquetry inlays, and decorative woodwork features such as turned spiral columns and tripod bases.

Craftsmen applied thin veneers of highly figured burr walnut onto solid timber substrates, securing hand-cut boxwood or fruitwood marquetry inlays before hand-carving solid walnut for the pedestal and legs.

Authentic period pieces display natural age-related patination, hand-cut veneer edges, micro-crazing in the original finish, and hand-carved joinery underneath the top and along the pedestal leg attachments.

This table can serve as an accent piece beside an armchair, an elegant lamp stand in a foyer, or a focal point in a reading nook to add historical contrast against modern upholstery.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage or fading, dust regularly with a soft lint-free cloth, and apply high-quality beeswax twice a year to preserve moisture.
