This Victorian wine table is fashioned from walnut, mahogany, and fruitwood inlay in rich warm brown tones. The round top features an intricate multi-coloured geometric and floral marquetry design, bordered by a dark rounded edge moulding. A central turned pedestal supports the top, meeting a carved base with three cabriole legs ending in pad feet. The table measures 70 cm high, 54 cm wide, and 54 cm deep. Suitable for use as a side or wine table in a living room, it fits comfortably at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair for holding small items. The compact footprint makes it an adaptable accent piece for traditional interiors, bringing ornamental woodwork and classic English country house style to a domestic setting.

FAQs

A Victorian wine table is a compact, circular occasional table designed during the 19th century, traditionally featuring a central carved pedestal resting on tripod cabriole legs.

Craftsmen typically utilised fine hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and walnut, frequently adorning the top surface with intricate marquetry or parquetry inlays using contrasting fruitwoods.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut veneers, hand-carved detailing on the column and feet, natural patination across the wood grain, and original underside construction joints.

A small tripod wine table functions effectively as a stylish side table beside an armchair, a quiet reading nook companion, or a compact plant stand in an entryway.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply high-grade beeswax sparingly along the wood grain, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to protect delicate wood inlays.
