Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1900s:
Flatwoven closure loops along the top edge: original transport saddlebag construction.
Subtle colour banding across the wool: traditional small-batch kettle dyeing.
Dark brown wool worn lower than surrounding colours: iron mordant reacting with time.
Hand-spun wool foundation visible on the back: tribal horizontal loom work.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This antique Jaf Kurd bagface from 1900 displays tribal Kurdish styling in hand-spun wool textiles with natural dyes. The surface presents a terracotta red palette combined with blues, greens, and yellows, featuring colourful diamond latch-hook medallions and geometric borders surrounded by a chequerboard fringe at the top. The weave shows excellent patination with a glimmering finish, along with one small repair visible in the top right corner near the pinned wooden support. Measuring 61 cm by 61 cm, this compact textile fits a range of interior spaces as a wall hanging or decorative display piece in a study, hallway, or living room. It suits homes styled with bohemian or traditional tribal influences, bringing tactile warmth and authentic historic character to domestic settings without requiring extensive floor space.

A Jaf Kurd bagface is a handwoven textile panel created by nomadic Jaf Kurdish weavers, originally forming the decorative front of a large double transport bag known as a khorjin.

These pieces are crafted using hand-spun wool warp, weft, and pile, dyed with traditional vegetable-based dyes, and feature symmetrical or asymmetrical hand-knotting with distinctive stepped diamond motifs.

Authentic examples display iconic latch-hook diamond medallions, saturated vegetable dyes with natural colour shifts (abrash), heavy wool construction, and characteristic woven border finishes.

A tribal bagface can be custom-framed or mounted on a rod as striking wall art, fashioned into a textured scatter cushion, or displayed draped over a bench for rich colour and pattern.

Vacuum gently using a low-suction attachment without a rotary brush bar, keep away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading, and rely on a specialist textile conservator for deep cleaning.
