Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Regency rosewood tea table stands 74 cm high, 91 cm wide and 45.5 cm deep. The dark brown piece has a rectangular fold-over top resting on a frieze decorated with carved scroll mouldings. A central turned pedestal supports the top, featuring carved acanthus leaf decoration above a circular base with a gadrooned edge. The structure rests on small bun feet. In a contemporary home, this table sits beside the front door or functions as a surface for serving tea and playing cards when the hinged top opens. The dark timber grain and warm polish provide a traditional aesthetic suitable for hallway or living room placement.

FAQs

A Regency tea table is a piece of early 19th-century English furniture designed with a fold-over top that swivels to expose a storage compartment, historically used for serving tea or social card playing.

Regency tea tables were predominantly constructed using dense hardwoods such as rosewood and mahogany, featuring hand-carved support friezes, pedestal bases, and brass mechanisms.

Authentic Regency tables display hand-carved ornamentation like acanthus leaves or gadrooning, heavy pedestal columns, scroll supports, and authentic 19th-century joinery within the swivel top mechanism.

Place the table against a wall in a hallway or living space as a console table, pairing it with contemporary artwork or structured ceramics above to complement the historical woodwork.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish sparingly along the timber grain, ensuring placement remains clear of direct radiators and harsh sunlight.
