This Anglo-Indian solid satinwood circular bobbin-turned gypsy table dates from circa 1880, belonging to the late nineteenth century. The piece displays a warm brown timber colour with a polished finish across its circular top and three splayed legs. Each leg is shaped with multiple bobbin turnings, creating a repeating ball-and-ring pattern from the underside of the top down to the floor, while the top has visible natural wood grain and a simple rounded edge. The piece measures 60 cm high, 53 cm wide, and 53 cm deep. In a modern interior, this side table fits well at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair in a living room, sitting room, or study. Its compact tripod footprint makes it suitable for smaller spaces, providing a practical surface for a lamp, small books, or decorative objects while adding traditional craftsmanship and texture to the room.

Popularised in the late 19th century during the Victorian era, a gypsy table is a small, lightweight occasional table typically featuring three bobbin-turned legs and a circular top.

These tables were frequently constructed from hardwoods such as satinwood, walnut, or oak, featuring legs crafted using a lathe to form spherical or spool-like turned patterns.

Authentic pieces from this period often combine European Victorian forms with regional timbers like satinwood or rosewood, exhibiting distinct hand-turned joinery and subtle variations in turned bobbin details.

Position the table beside an armchair or at the end of a sofa to hold a table lamp, books, or small decorative ceramics, introducing textural character to contemporary rooms.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply high-quality beeswax twice a year along the grain to nourish the timber and protect the natural finish.
