This Edwardian mahogany occasional table dates from 1860 and exhibits a rich brown timber colour. The circular top carries a thumb-moulded edge alongside delicate boxwood line inlays that form a decorative stringing detail around the perimeter. Four flared, splay legs curve downwards to support the structure, united by shaped supports that hold a central lower circular undertier shelf. Measuring 75 cm high, 61 cm wide, and 61 cm deep, the table fits naturally beside the end of a sofa in a traditional English country house interior. The surface provides a practical platform for displaying a lamp, decorative objects, or a floral arrangement, while the lower shelf offers additional display space. The traditional form and refined inlay work integrate smoothly into existing living room schemes.

Edwardian occasional tables typically date from the early 20th century, characterised by lighter proportions, swept or tapered legs, inlay detail, and functional elements such as lower tiers.

These pieces were primarily crafted using mahogany, often featuring satinwood or boxwood stringing inlay, connected with traditional mortise and tenon joinery and finished with French polish.

Authentic pieces display period-appropriate construction features, including natural aged timber oxidation on the underside, hand-finished inlay work, and genuine wear patterns consistent with age.

Position the piece next to clean-lined modern seating as a functional lamp stand, or style it with minimal ceramic accessories to contrast classic wood grain against contemporary textures.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply high-grade beeswax polish along the wood grain twice yearly, keeping the table away from direct heat sources and moisture.
