Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French Country farmhouse dining table dates to 1920 and takes the form of a solid oak dining table. The piece exhibits a natural light oak timber colour with visible grain, a thick plank top, and a bleached finish. Structural details comprise X-frame trestle legs, scrolled feet, peg-joined stretcher joints, and side stretchers. The top is detachable for easy access into the home. Practical dimensions measure 76 cm high by 216 cm wide and 84 cm deep. Suitable for use in a modern dining room or kitchen space, the table provides generous surface area for everyday dining and family gatherings. The rustic design coordinates easily with both traditional and contemporary interior schemes while offering comfortable legroom along the length of the trestle base.

FAQs

A French X-leg trestle table is characterised by cross-shaped end supports linked by a central horizontal stretcher. This design originated in medieval Europe to provide stable seating that could be disassembled or easily moved.

Traditional French farmhouse tables are typically constructed using solid European oak joined with mortise and tenon joints, held together with wooden pegs rather than metal fasteners.

Authentic period examples feature hand-planed tops, visible wooden pegging, natural shrinkage marks along the grain, and signs of historical wear near the footrests.

The understated wood grain pairs well with modern upholstered dining chairs, industrial seating, or minimalist architectural backdrop elements to create textual contrast.

Regular dusting followed by the application of a clear beeswax polish helps protect the grain, while immediate wiping of liquid spills prevents ring marks on raw oak.
