This large French Normandy farmhouse dining table dates to 1920 and follows a rustic French provincial style. Constructed from solid oak with a bleached natural oak finish, the piece displays a thick rectangular plank top with visible grain variations, square legs, and a sturdy H-stretcher base joined with pegged construction. The timber exhibits a pale, light tone with subtle knots and natural surface texturing consistent with its early 20th-century origins. Measuring 79 cm high, 242 cm wide, and 92 cm deep, the table provides generous proportions to seat up to 10 people comfortably. Suitable for everyday dining, the table functions effectively as the central gathering surface in a spacious kitchen or dining room. The substantial depth and removable top facilitate practical placement and access within the home. Solid construction ensures stability for daily family use, while the clean lines and neutral wooden tones integrate easily into both traditional and contemporary interior schemes.

Originating in northwestern France, these tables were crafted as practical gathering pieces, typically featuring solid oak construction, robust mortise and tenon joinery, and functional stretcher bases suited to rural domestic life.

They were predominantly built from locally sourced hardwoods, most commonly French oak, featuring thick plank tops, squared or turned legs, and supportive H-stretchers or box stretchers held together with timber dowels.

Look for hand-planed tool marks on the underside, genuine hand-cut dowel pins securing the joints, irregular plank widths on the top, and authentic wear patterns along the footrests and edges.

Pair the warmth of natural, unvarnished oak with modern seating, such as upholstered chairs or contemporary metal frames, to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth, clean spills immediately with a damp towel, and apply clear beeswax polish periodically to protect the timber without altering its natural grain.
