This large dining table comes from the early 1900s and is built in a rustic farmhouse style. It is made from solid oak with a bleached natural wood finish, displaying prominent grain patterns and thick timber planks across the top. The structure relies on sturdy X-frame trestle supports connected by a central key-joined stretcher with visible wooden joinery pins, angled feet resting directly on the floor, and generous overhangs at either end. Overall, the table measures 76.5 cm high by 240.5 cm wide and 101 cm deep. Positioned in a family dining room or a spacious kitchen, this table provides a practical centrepiece for daily meals and gatherings. The generous length and wide surface accommodate multiple chairs down each side while offering ample legroom underneath for guests. The neutral timber tone integrates easily into various interior schemes, pairing well with traditional wooden chairs or more modern seating options.

An X-trestle dining table features a structural base consisting of crossed timber legs joined by a central horizontal stretcher. Originating in medieval Europe, this design allowed tables to be disassembled and relocated efficiently, evolving into a durable staple of country farmhouse interiors.

Traditional trestle tables are constructed from dense hardwoods such as oak, elm, or pine. The framing typically relies on mortise and tenon joinery secured with wooden pegs or key wedges, creating structural stability without metal fasteners.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-planing, irregular wear on the central stretcher from foot placement, and natural patination in the wood grain. Inspect the joint work for hand-cut mortises and wedged wooden keys rather than modern machine screws or hidden steel brackets.

Pair a heavy oak trestle table with contemporary minimalist chairs or upholstered seating to create structural and visual contrast. Position the table over a neutral wool rug beneath minimalist architectural lighting to ground the space.

Keep solid oak furniture away from direct heat sources and excessive humidity to prevent timber movement or splitting. Clean regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality neutral wax polish periodically to protect the timber surface.
