Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of 19th Century French Chateau doors exhibits a concave curved wooden frame finished in a distressed off-white painted surface. Each door holds multiple glass panes across the upper section above a rectangular raised lower panel. The original mirrored plates show distinct aged foxing and weathering across the glass surface, accompanied by visible chips and wear along the pale painted timber mouldings. Metal hardware includes visible hinges down the outer edge and a keyhole escutcheon on the central stile. Measuring 230 cm high, 74 cm wide, and 13 cm deep per door, these architectural elements adapt well to contemporary interior settings. They sit propped upright against an interior wall as a decorative wall hanging or focal feature, and offer potential for conversion into fitted cupboards within a living space or bedroom.

FAQs

Concave or curved doors were custom-built in 18th and 19th-century European architecture to fit specific interior layouts, such as rounded alcoves, corner cupboards, or circular vestibules.

These doors were predominantly crafted using joinery-grade softwoods like pine or hardwoods like oak, secured with mortise and tenon joints, and fitted with mouth-blown glass panes or early mirror glass.

Authentic period doors feature hand-cut joinery, historic iron hardware traces, irregularities in original glass panes, and multi-layered paint finishes displaying natural age-related wear and craquelure.

They are frequently repurposed as decorative wall panels, fitted as floor-to-ceiling wardrobe doors, integrated into custom alcove shelving, or converted into freestanding room dividers.

To preserve distressed painted wood, clean surfaces gently using a dry soft brush, avoid harsh chemical cleaners, maintain stable indoor humidity levels, and apply a neutral wax seal if stabilizing flaking paint is required.
