Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Baluster turnings and box stretchers: seventeenth-century design adapted for nesting tables.
Exposed wooden pegs on tops: traditional jointing details mimicking early joinery.
Gentle softening to the moulded edges: long handling across the table surfaces.
Warm wax finish on solid oak: mellow patina built up over time.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This nest of three tables belongs to the 1920 English Country style. Made of solid oak, the set displays a warm brown timber colour with a wax finish, comprising graduating rectangular tops and box stretchers uniting the turned legs. The visible details include moulded edges along the tabletops and block feet beneath the cylindrical turnings. The largest table measures 44 cm high, 50.5 cm wide, and 36.5 cm deep. In a modern interior, this set functions as a versatile addition to a living space. The nesting design allows the smaller tables to slide neatly beneath the primary surface when not in use. Placed at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair, the tables provide accessible surface space for lamps, drinks, or books while maintaining a compact footprint in the room.

A nest of tables is a set of small accent tables of graduating sizes designed to fit stacked neatly underneath one another when not in use. Originating in the late eighteenth century, this furniture design provides versatile surface space while conserving floor space.

Traditional oak nests of tables feature solid oak tops, turned wooden legs, and lower stretchers for structural reinforcement. Construction typically utilizes mortise and tenon joinery alongside wooden pegs to secure the framing.

Authentic pieces display signs of natural age, such as uneven wear on the legs, historic joinery, and patination beneath the table surfaces. The inner framing and undersides generally show unpolished wood with visible historic tool marks rather than uniform modern machine cuts.

A nest of tables can be placed adjacent to a sofa or armchair as compact side surfaces for lighting, books, or drinks. The individual tables can be unnested and distributed across a room during gatherings to provide flexible auxiliary surfaces.

Dust the surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically along the grain to preserve the timber. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent moisture loss, warping, or fading of the natural wood tone.
