This Edwardian stick stand belongs to the early 20th century, dating between 1900 and 1920, and follows an English Country House style. Constructed from oak with a warm brown finish, the piece features a flared, circular slatted framework with a waisted design, formed from turned vertical spindles, circular top and base rails, and an integrated metal drip tray at the circular base. Visible signs of age include a developed oak patina from years of use and surface wear on the metal drip tray. Standing 67 cm high, 29 cm wide, and 29 cm deep, the stand occupies a compact footprint. In a modern home, this piece finds its practical use beside the front door to hold umbrellas, walking sticks, and canes. The open slatted structure ensures items dry efficiently, while the low profile fits neatly into hallways, porches, or boot rooms. Its traditional materials and warm timber tone complement both period properties and contemporary country-style interiors, keeping entryway storage orderly and accessible.

Stick stands gained popularity during the 19th and early 20th centuries as dedicated hallway storage for walking sticks, canes, and wet umbrellas upon entering a home.

These pieces were commonly constructed from durable hardwoods such as oak or beech, frequently incorporating cast iron or pressed metal drip trays at the base to collect moisture.

Authentic period examples feature period joinery methods such as steam-bent timber or fitted spindles, alongside original removable metal drip trays displaying age-appropriate oxidisation.

Position the stand in an entryway, porch, or foyer beside a hall table to provide practical storage for umbrellas, walking sticks, or decorative rolled maps.

Dust the timber framework regularly with a soft cloth, apply natural beeswax polish periodically to protect the finish, and ensure the metal drip tray is kept dry to prevent rust.
