Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Campaign furniture originated during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, designed specifically to be packed down and transported by military officers on duty. Key characteristics include flat surfaces, protective brass corner mounts, flush handles, and sturdy hardwoods such as mahogany or teak.

Traditional campaign nests were constructed from solid timbers capable of withstanding climate changes and travel, predominantly mahogany, teak, or walnut. They feature cast or stamped brass hardware, including protective corner brackets and flush plaque inlays, assembled using glued mortise and tenon joinery.

Authentic campaign pieces display functional structural details such as brass corners fitted flush against the timber to prevent damage during transport. Look for original hand-cut dovetail joints, heavy brass hardware with natural oxidisation, and solid timber backings rather than modern veneers.

Position the nested set beside a sofa or armchair to act as a compact side table when fully stacked. Separate the individual tables across a room during gatherings to provide versatile surfaces for lamps, drinks, or books while adding warm timber tones to the space.

Dust regularly using a soft dry cloth and polish timber surfaces with clear beeswax to nourish the wood grain. Avoid abrasive metal cleaners on brass components; gentle wiping preserves the original patina without removing historical surface character.
