FAQs

Georgian towel rails, developed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, were practical laundry and linen management accessories used in large domestic households before the advent of central heating.

These pieces were typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or ash, utilising traditional joinery like mortise and tenon joints alongside hinged folding mechanisms.

Authenticity is determined by hand-cut joinery, period-appropriate timber patination, traditional fixings, and structural wear consistent with age and manual crafting techniques.

In modern interiors, these functional items can be utilised in bathrooms or utility spaces to hang textiles, combining historical character with practical storage.

Preservation involves maintaining stable ambient humidity levels, avoiding direct heat sources, and applying microcrystalline wax periodically to protect the timber finish.
