This 18th century Georgian occasional table is constructed from mahogany with a warm brown timber colour, finished with a smooth polished sheen across its circular top and wooden surfaces. The design incorporates a turned central pedestal with a spiral-carved knop, three slender cabriole legs ending in pad feet, and a circular tilt-top surface with visible figuring in the wood grain. The piece measures 76 cm high, 71 cm wide, and 71 cm deep. Suitable for placement at the end of a sofa, as a side table, lamp table, or wine table, the piece brings traditional English Country House character to a living space. The construction includes a birdcage action beneath the top, allowing the surface to rotate and tilt for storage when not in use. The timber exhibits age-related surface wear and a developed patina across the structure.

A birdcage tripod table features a revolving and tilting mechanism mounted atop a central stem supported by three cabriole legs. Popularised during the 18th century, the wooden birdcage block allows the circular top both to rotate independently and fold vertically for space-saving placement against a wall.

Traditional 18th-century tripod tables were predominantly crafted from solid dense mahogany. Construction features hand-carved turned central pillars, hand-cut dovetail joints securing the legs to the stem, and iron or brass catch mechanisms to hold the tabletop flat.

Authentic Georgian examples feature hand-planed underside surfaces, period iron or brass tilt latches, and legs dovetailed directly into the base of the column. Look for natural shrinkage across the circular top timber and hand-carved details along the stem.

Position the table alongside an armchair as an occasional drink stand or place it in a reading nook. Its slender pedestal profile allows it to fit neatly in tight spaces or alongside contemporary upholstered furniture to add historical contrast.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply high-quality beeswax twice yearly along the grain to nourish the timber. Keep the item away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity sources to prevent timber warping or cracking.
