This Georgian occasional table has a circular single-piece top with a tilt-top mechanism, raised on a turned central pedestal and three cabriole legs ending in pad feet. The timber displays a warm brown colour with rich grain patterns across the circular surface. The piece stands 71 cm high, 83 cm wide, and 83 cm deep. Suitable for use at the end of a sofa in an English country house interior, the table provides a practical surface while bringing classic heritage design to a sitting room. The tilt-top mechanism allows the surface to be folded back when not required, making the table versatile for smaller layouts or periodic use.

Originating in the eighteenth century, the tilt-top tripod table features a circular surface mounted on a central column supported by three cabriole legs. The tilting mechanism allows the tabletop to pivot vertically for compact storage along walls when not in use.

These tables were typically crafted from solid mahogany, oak, or walnut, featuring hand-turned pedestals and joinery secured with wooden pegs or iron latches. The tripod base is engineered with three down-swept legs attached to a central block to maintain stability on uneven floors.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut metal tilt catches, hand-planed undersides, and irregular wear around the pivot catch. Natural wood shrinkage over long periods often creates slight ovaling of the timber top, which serves as an indicator of age.

A tripod table functions effectively as an accent piece beside an armchair, an occasional table in a reading nook, or positioned upright in an entry hallway. Its compact footprint and warm wood tones pair well with contemporary upholstered furniture.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish once or twice a year along the grain. Keep solid wood away from direct heat sources and severe humidity changes to prevent timber movement or surface split formation.
