This Victorian plant stand dates to circa 1875 in the Louis XVI Revival style, rendered in warm brown mahogany combined with brass, gilt, and an onyx marble top. The hexagonal top includes an integrated pierced brass gallery, supported by tripod uprights featuring turned and fluted legs, floral ormolu mounts, and a triform stretcher connecting the lower shafts. Original finials and brass mounts complement the carved and moulded framework throughout the structure. The stand measures 82 cm high, 37 cm wide, and 37 cm deep in practical terms. Position this decorative piece in a sunlit conservatory or by a bay window to hold planters, vases, or decorative ornaments within a traditional interior scheme. The stand brings historical character to living rooms, hallways, or drawing rooms, providing a stable elevated surface for display purposes while integrating smoothly with antique or classic furnishing arrangements.

During the late nineteenth century, Victorian interiors frequently featured specialised plant stands and jardinieres to display exotic foliage and indoor plants, reflecting the eras fascination with botany and horticulture.

These stands were constructed using hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, often combined with inset marble tops, pierced brass galleries, and cast gilt-bronze or brass mounts.

Authentic pieces display period construction features such as hand-cut joinery underneath, cast brass or ormolu fittings with natural age patination, and hand-turned fluted leg detailing.

Place the stand in a well-lit corner or bay window to elevate house plants, or use it as a decorative column to showcase contemporary ceramics, sculptures, or table lamps.

Dust the woodwork regularly with a soft cloth and apply clear beeswax sparingly, whilst wiping the marble surface with a damp cloth and avoiding harsh chemicals on aged metal mounts.
