This 18th-century George III embroidered silk and wool pastoral farming picture displays three classical figures in elegant robes and woven sandals within a woodland setting alongside three small lambs, rendered with French knots and detailed foliage. Enclosed in a moulded giltwood frame retaining its original protective glass panel, the work measures 58.4 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 5 cm deep. Both the textile and the frame survive in overall very good original condition, showing minor areas of deterioration in the silk. Displaying a multicolour palette with vibrant blue, pink, and red hues, the textile art fits an English Country House aesthetic. Hang the piece on a narrow wall space in a living room, hallway, or study to introduce historic texture and traditional character to an interior scheme.

A George III silk needlework picture is a hand-embroidered textile art piece created during the reign of King George III (17601820), typically executed on a silk satin ground using silk and wool threads depicting pastoral, biblical, or classical scenes.

These pieces were crafted using silk satin or linen backings embroidered with fine silk and wool threads, incorporating techniques such as long-and-short stitch, stitch painting, and French knots, often framed behind glass in a glazed giltwood or lacquer frame.

Authentic pieces feature natural age-related toning or minor cracking to the silk ground, hand-stitched thread variations, period glazing or backing board signatures, and original hand-carved or moulded giltwood framing.

Antique embroideries can be integrated into gallery walls alongside modern works, mounted in a traditional study, or hung above a sideboard to provide historical texture and material contrast in contemporary or traditional interior spaces.

Keep textile pictures out of direct sunlight and high humidity, mount them using acid-free conservation materials behind UV-filtering glass, and consult a professional textile restorer for cleaning or structural stabilisation.
