Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian silver-plated spirit kettle stands on a decorated metal base, dating from around 1900 in the English Country House style. The polished silver body features intricate foliate engraving with flowers, leaves and scrolls surrounding a shield cartouche, complemented by an overhead shaped handle, a curved spout and a small finial on the cover. The ornate stand is supported by cabriole legs with figural motifs, holding the original burner secured by a small chain. The kettle measures 43 cm high, 31 cm wide and 25 cm deep. Placed on a sideboard top, this piece functions as a decorative serving item in a dining room or living space. The metallic sheen reflects ambient light while the detailed metalwork adds traditional character to a table setting or display surface. The design incorporates practical structural elements including a secure overhead handle for pouring and elevated legs to protect furniture surfaces below.

FAQs

A spirit kettle is designed to keep water hot at the tea table using an adjustable spirit lamp positioned beneath the vessel on a custom stand, eliminating the need to return to the kitchen for hot water refills.

Edwardian spirit kettles were commonly crafted from electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) or solid sterling silver, often featuring heat-resistant bone, horn, or wooden insulators on the handles and lid finials.

Authentic Edwardian silver-plated items typically bear manufacturer marks such as EPNS or maker initials, along with turn-of-the-century design motifs including bright-cut engraving, shield cartouches, and rococo-influenced cabriole legs.

An antique spirit kettle serves as a striking decorative focal point when placed on a dining room sideboard, traditional dressers, or incorporated into an curated tea tray display in a living space.

Silver-plated items should be gently cleaned with a soft cloth and a specialized silver polish, avoiding abrasive cleaners or dipping solutions that can strip the thin silver layer over time.
