Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pair of large round planters from the south of France in the French provincial style, dating from 1960. These glazed earthenware vessels have a tapered round body with a creamy ochre yellow base, accented by striking green and brown drip glaze patterns running vertically down the sides. Each piece includes twin looped lug handles on either side and sits outdoors or in a sunlit conservatory beside the front door, filled with green foliage plants. Each planter is 29 cm high, 42 cm wide and 42 cm deep. The pottery exhibits light signs of wear commensurate with use, highlighting the authentic handmade character of the earthenware. The traditional dribble glazed finish creates a rustic aesthetic that complements period or contemporary garden settings. They provide functional utility with a drainage hole in the base for live planting, while the vibrant multi-coloured glaze stands out against the terracotta body. These French provincial planters bring a touch of Mediterranean style to patios, garden terraces or entranceways.

FAQs

Castelnaudary planters are traditional glazed earthenware vessels produced in the Languedoc region of Southern France, historically used for food storage and horticulture.

These pieces are crafted from local red terracotta clay and finished with lead-based glazes, frequently featuring a primary ochre yellow body accenting green or manganese brown drip glazes.

Authentic examples display heavy terracotta construction, double lug handles near the rim, and characteristically imperfect glaze runs created during hand-firing in regional kilns.

These planters suit sunrooms, entryways, and garden terraces, providing warm texture when planted with flowering perennials or foliage.

Terracotta vessels should be sheltered during severe winter frost to prevent moisture from freezing inside the clay walls and causing structural cracking.
