This Victorian serving tray dates from 1860 and follows a classic English Country House style. Constructed from dark brown mahogany, the piece has a polished finish and incorporates satinwood stringing alongside a central fan inlay medallion on the flat base. A scalloped gallery edge runs around the perimeter, complemented by two cast brass side handles fitted securely to the borders. Signs of age appear in the fine grain variations of the timber and the aged patina on the metal hardware. The accessory measures 6 cm high, 57.5 cm wide and 39 cm deep. In a contemporary interior, the tray serves practical and decorative purposes on a sideboard top in a dining room or living space. It provides a stable surface for holding decorative ornaments, glassware, or tea sets when entertaining guests. The traditional craftsmanship and warm tones integrate effortlessly with period furniture collections as well as eclectic modern displays.

A Victorian inlaid tea tray is a portable wood serving platform crafted during the nineteenth century, characterised by decorative marquetry or stringing inlays, elevated gallery rims, and side handles.

These trays were primarily constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, often detailed with satinwood or boxwood inlays and fitted with cast brass handles.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut joinery along the gallery rim, genuine marquetry or shell motifs inlaid into the veneer, and cast brass handles showing natural oxidisation.

Position the tray on a sideboard, ottoman, or coffee table to anchor decorative items such as glassware, decanters, or small ceramic vases.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a beeswax polish sparingly to protect the wood finish while avoiding contact with standing water or direct heat sources.
