This 19th-century East India Company percussion pistol is a Victorian military firearm showcasing a dark brown walnut stock paired with a steel barrel and lock. The piece incorporates a brass trigger guard, brass fittings, a captive swivel ramrod with sling mount, and a lanyard ring at the base of the butt. The metal parts exhibit a dark weathered finish, and the lock holds strongly on both full and half cock. The item measures 18 cm high, 39 cm wide, and 6 cm deep. Suited for a gentleman's library, this firearm belongs on a bookshelf as a display piece for a collection of antique weaponry.

These firearms were standardized military sidearms manufactured during the mid-19th century for forces operating under the East India Company. They typically feature percussion cap ignition mechanisms, heavy-gauge smoothbore barrels, walnut stocks, and brass mounts.

Martial pistols of this era were primarily constructed using dense walnut for the stock, forged steel or iron for the barrel and lock mechanism, and brass for the trigger guard, side plate, and butt cap to withstand heavy field use.

Authentic examples bear official ordnance proof marks, maker stamps on the lock plate, inspector marks on the timber stock, and period-correct mechanical features such as a captive swivel ramrod designed for mounted troops.

Historical firearms are traditionally displayed mounted on wooden stands or within glazed presentation cases placed on bookshelves, executive desks, or mantelpieces within dark-wood, traditional, or eclectic studies.

Metal components require a light application of microcrystalline wax or gun oil to prevent oxidisation, while timber stocks should be treated with natural beeswax. Items must be kept in a climate-controlled environment away from humidity.
