Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1890 Chinese Export jardiniere stand consists of a dark brown hardwood frame with a polished finish and visible wood grain. The circular inset top sits above a deep carved frieze decorated with high-relief motifs of grapevines, leaves, and grape clusters. Four curved cabriole legs extend downwards, each adorned with detailed leaf carvings and terminating in distinct scroll feet, while being united near the base by a circular lower tier shelf that features subtle incised surface decoration. The entire dark wood structure stands with an even polish and crisp hand-carving throughout. Practical dimensions measure 69 cm high, 49 cm wide, and 49 cm deep, providing a compact footprint suited for various domestic layouts. Placed in an empty corner, a sunlit conservatory, or a hallway, this stand holds potted plants, decorative lamps, or small sculptures to enhance traditional or eclectic interior settings.

FAQs

Jardiniere stands originated during the Qing Dynasty as specialized pedestals designed to elevate bonsai trees, flower pots, and porcelain vessels in Chinese homes, becoming popular export items in the 19th century.

These stands were predominantly constructed using dense hardwoods such as rosewood, padauk, or stained elm, occasionally incorporating inset tops made of marble or polished timber.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved floral or mythological motifs with varying depths, traditional blind mortise-and-tenon joinery, and natural wear patterns consistent with age along the base and edges.

Position the stand in an unused room corner, hallway, or bay window topped with a trailing houseplant or ceramic vase to balance ornate historic details with modern decor.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and radiators to avoid cracking, dust intricate carved aprons regularly using a soft dry brush, and apply beeswax annually to preserve the wood finish.
