FAQs

Treen encompasses small, functional wooden objects crafted by hand or on a lathe. Novelty sewing items carved to resemble natural objects gained immense popularity during the Victorian era and early 20th century as both functional tools and desk ornaments.

These pieces were typically carved from dense hardwoods such as walnut, boxwood, or fruitwood, often fitted with internal components made of bone, mother-of-pearl, or steel for the tiny implements.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural patina, minor wear consistent with age, and hand-tooled markings. The joints and screw threads within carved wooden shells should show historical hand-cut precision rather than modern machine stamping.

Place this miniature object on a stack of art books on a coffee table or inside a glass-fronted cabinet to add an element of tactile curiosity and historical interest to a space.

Keep wooden treen out of direct sunlight and away from radiators to prevent splitting. Maintain the surface using microcrystalline wax sparingly, avoiding liquid polishes or water.
