FAQs

Victorian majolica is a type of colourful, lead-glazed earthenware that gained immense popularity during the 19th century, renowned for its vibrant colour palette and naturalistic motifs.

Majolica is traditionally crafted from earthenware clay coated with an opaque tin-lead glaze, onto which metal-oxide colours are painted before firing.

Authentic pieces often feature impressed factory marks, registration numbers, fine crazing in the glaze, and detailed relief moulding characteristic of 19th-century ceramicists.

A majolica jardiniere works well as a focal point on a sideboard or table, contrasting effectively against neutral backgrounds to highlight its rich glazes and sculptural form.

Clean gently with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals and abrasive scrubbers to preserve the delicate historical glaze.
