These two lengths of eighteenth-century Bizarre silk lampas date from circa 1710 to 1720 and originate from France. Made from silk, the fabric exhibits an ecru ground ornamented with floral sprays, leaves, and rocaille decorations rendered in white, green, yellow, madder, and blue hues. The design incorporates botanical motifs and stylized scrollwork within an asymmetrical weave characteristic of the period. Each panel includes a join positioned towards the lower edge, showing the construction methods of early eighteenth-century textiles. The pieces share a width of 54 cm, with heights measuring 116 cm and 109 cm. These historic textile lengths are suited for collectors or textile historians interested in early European weaving. They provide authentic historical fabric samples for museum display or specialized period restoration projects. Due to their delicate nature, they are not intended for heavy everyday domestic use but can be framed or mounted as decorative wall hangings within a traditional interior setting.

Bizarre silk refers to a distinct style of woven silk fabric produced predominantly in Western Europe between approximately 1695 and 1720. Characterised by asymmetrical, fantastical patterns combining Oriental motifs, architectural elements, and botanical forms, it represents a transitional style between Baroque and Rococo aesthetics.

Lampas is a complex figured textile featuring a primary structure composed of a ground warp and weft, combined with a supplementary pattern warp and weft. This dual-structure technique creates intricate motifs with varied textures, using silk yarns to produce floating pattern elements on the surface.

Authentic 18th-century lampas displays narrow loom widths, typically around 50 to 55 centimetres, with intact woven selvedges. Examination of the weave structure reveals hand-loomed characteristics, period-appropriate natural dyes, and historical signs of age such as surface patination or oxidisation.

Historic silk lengths are frequently mounted behind UV-protective glass as framed wall art to create a focal feature within a room. Alternatively, they can be draped across console tables or integrated into archival display cabinets for added texture and historical depth.

Historic textiles should be kept away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and heat sources to prevent fibre degradation and colour fading. Cleaning must be managed by a professional textile conservator, avoiding domestic laundering or standard dry-cleaning methods.
