Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This five-piece Victorian bathroom set from 1880 comprises a large pitcher with a curved handle, a matching basin, a small jug, a lidded bowl with a looped finial, and a drained soap dish. Made of white earthenware with a glazed finish, each piece displays a cobalt blue rim and detailed hand-coloured bird illustrations alongside botanical foliage in shades of blue, red, green, brown, pink and black. The set measures 33 cm high, 41 cm wide and 41 cm deep. Suitable for use on a bathroom counter in an English Country House, the set provides decorative charm and functional storage. The smooth glossy glaze reflects light across the botanical motifs, while the distinct cobalt borders frame the painted scenes on every item. The collection forms a cohesive ensemble for a traditional washstand or countertop presentation.

FAQs

Prior to widespread indoor plumbing, Victorian households utilised portable ceramic wash sets comprising a pitcher, basin, soap dish, and accessory containers for daily personal grooming.

These sets were primarily manufactured from glazed earthenware, ironstone, or porcelain, often adorned using transferware printing methods or hand-painted enamel details.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples frequently feature manufacturer stamps or registration diamonds on the underside, faint glaze crazing, and substantial ceramic weight with hand-finished trim.

These ceramic items function as decorative focal points when arranged on a bathroom vanity, bedroom dressing table, or displayed alongside fresh floral arrangements on a hallway console.

Hand wash ceramic pieces gently using warm water and mild liquid detergent, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive sponges, or extreme temperature shifts that could crack the glaze.
