This 18th century Georgian needlework picture is an unframed textile art piece executed in wool and silk on a linen canvas ground. The design depicts a botanical floral arrangement featuring carnations, peonies, poppies, and anemones inside a golden urn, placed upon a stepped ledge draped with a fringed textile against an ochre gold background. Detailed embroidery showcases various blues, reds, pinks, whites, and greens throughout the botanical motifs, while frayed edges and visible pin marks along the top border demonstrate the age of the canvaswork. Measuring 59 cm high by 45 cm wide, this tent stitch canvaswork piece serves as traditional English country house decor suitable for display above a sideboard in a living room, dining room, or hallway.

18th-century English needlework pictures frequently featured botanical compositions, classical urns, and floral still lifes. Rendered in fine tent stitch or petit point on linen grounds, these textiles reflected the Georgian interest in natural history and decorative needlecraft.

These decorative panels were primarily stitched using dyed wool and silk threads on a linen or canvas ground. The technique typically involved tent stitch (petit point or gros point) to achieve detailed shading and depth in floral motifs.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural dye fading on the front compared to the reverse side, irregular hand-spun threads, and hand stitching. Frame marks, hand-forged tacks, and period-appropriate linen backing fabrics further confirm 18th-century age.

Mount the textile in a museum-quality acrylic display box or simple conservation frame to highlight its historic texture. Displaying needlework panels in gallery walls alongside modern art creates a balanced contrast of textures and eras.

Keep antique needlework out of direct sunlight to prevent further fading and fibre degradation. House the panel behind UV-filtering glass with acid-free mounting materials, maintaining stable humidity levels to protect natural fibres.
