FAQs

Range fenders emerged during the 18th and 19th centuries to contain hot cinders from open hearths and protect hearth rugs from damage, evolving into decorative focal points in period homes.

These items were typically constructed from cast or sheet brass, often featuring faceted bars, turned or fluted support feet, and heavy corner mounts secured with threaded fixings.

Authentic pieces usually display natural patination, heavy metal weight, hand-finished joints, and casting irregularities characteristic of historical manufacturing techniques.

It can be positioned in front of an open fireplace or wood burner to ground the hearth area, introducing metallic texture and historic character to contemporary spaces.

Preserve the metal by dusting with a soft dry cloth and avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip historical patina, using mild soapy water only when cleaning is necessary.
