This Italian console table dates from 1920 and follows a Rococo Revival style, constructed from warm brown walnut with a shaped marble top. The piece stands on cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, supporting a serpentine front and a heavily carved apron featuring central scrollwork and floral relief motifs. The timber displays visible grain patterns alongside a polished medium-brown finish, while the frieze incorporates intricate edge mouldings. The structure measures 85 cm high, 147 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this narrow console fits well in an entrance hallway, living room, or along a narrow corridor to display decorative items, table lamps, or framed photographs. The slim profile allows placement against a wall in reception spaces without obstructing walkways.

FAQs

An Italian serpentine console table is a slim wall-adjacent table featuring a signature S-curved front edge, popularised during the 18th-century Rococo period and recreated in the 1920s.

These tables were typically crafted from carved hardwoods such as walnut or beech and were frequently fitted with shaped marble or polished timber tops.

Look for hand-carved detailing along the apron and cabriole legs, period-appropriate joinery beneath the frame, and natural patination across the timber finish.

Position the table in an entryway or hallway, paired with a contemporary mirror or simple ceramic vessel above to complement the ornate carved woodwork.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish to the wooden frame periodically to retain timber moisture and lustre.
