Eighteenth-century Delftware refers to tin-glazed earthenware produced in the Netherlands, particularly in the city of Delft, inspired heavily by imported Chinese porcelain.

These vessels were typically formed from local clays, fired into a porous earthenware body, and coated with an opaque white tin-lead glaze before being hand-painted with cobalt blue pigments.

Authentic pieces often exhibit fine crazing in the glaze, irregular hand-thrown potting characteristics, cobalt pigments that sink slightly into the tin glaze, and period-appropriate maker marks on the base.

Such pieces function well as standalone display centrepieces on dining tables, sideboards, or open shelving, contrasting effectively against contemporary minimalist furniture.

To preserve the fragile tin glaze and prevent staining through existing hairline cracks, these items should be kept away from excessive moisture, never washed in a dishwasher, and dusted gently with a soft dry cloth.
