Nineteenth-century ceramics frequently utilised lead or tin-based glazes to achieve lustrous, pearly, or opaque white finishes on utilitarian earthenware bodies.

Traditional utilitarian jugs from this era were typically constructed from heavy earthenware or stoneware, thrown on a potters wheel and finished with an opaque glaze for liquid retention.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit characteristic signs of age, such as crazing in the glaze, manual throwing imperfections, base wear, and historical kiln marks.

Such pieces can be utilised as standalone decorative accents on shelving or as rustic vessels for dried botanicals to add texture and historical contrast to modern spaces.

Antique ceramics should be cleaned cautiously using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding harsh abrasives or prolonged soaking to protect fragile historical glazes.
