FAQs

Carved wooden crests and heraldic plaques historically served as symbols of lineage, nobility, and institutional authority, often displayed in manor houses, civic buildings, and estate libraries across Europe.

These pieces are traditionally crafted from dense hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or pine, utilizing hand-chiselling and relief-carving techniques to create deep, multi-layered dimensional designs.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit natural wood ageing, tool marks from hand-chiselling, uniform oxidation, and dry shrinkage cracks, whereas modern reproductions often display machine milling and artificial distressing.

An antique crest works effectively as a focal point when mounted on a plain painted wall to contrast its ornate texture, or styled above a fireplace mantel to add historical depth and architectural interest.

Preservation requires dusting with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding liquid cleaners, wax buildups, or direct sunlight to prevent the wood from drying out, cracking, or fading over time.
