Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

FAQs

Edwardian cheese dishes were popular dining table accessories used to store and present cheese while protecting it from pests and drying out. Potteries such as W&R Carlton Ware produced elaborate decorative tableware reflecting the refined tastes of the early 20th century.

These items were typically made from fine earthenware or porcelain, featuring moulded clay reliefs often inspired by classical or pastoral motifs. The characteristic contrasting colours were achieved through specialised glazing and dipping techniques.

Authenticity is generally verified through makers marks, registration numbers, and backstamps stamped or printed on the unglazed base. Additionally, genuine pieces exhibit hand-finished details, weight appropriate to the ceramic body, and age-related crazing within the glaze.

Such pieces can be displayed on open shelving, dining sideboards, or kitchen worktops to introduce historical texture and colour. They serve as functional serveware or decorative focal points in traditional and transitional interior schemes.

Antique ceramics should be washed strictly by hand using lukewarm water and mild, non-abrasive soap, avoiding prolonged soaking to prevent moisture ingress through glaze crazing. They must be handled with care and kept away from extreme temperature fluctuations.
