French Neoclassical design draws inspiration from the classical art and architecture of ancient Greece and Rome, characterised by symmetry, straight lines, and restrained ornamentation popular during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Antique pedestals are typically constructed from solid timbers such as pine, oak, or fruitwood, often featuring hand-carved plaster, gesso, or wood composite decorative elements finished with painted or gilded layers.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction techniques, such as hand-cut joinery and signs of historical wear, alongside the composition of original paint layers, patination, and material density.

A classical pedestal can be used to display modern sculptures, ceramics, or large plants, creating a deliberate juxtaposition between historical form and contemporary art objects.

Preservation requires dusting with a dry, soft cloth and avoiding chemical cleaners, moisture, or direct sunlight to protect the integrity of the original paint surface and underlying timber.
