FAQs

Chinoiserie is a European interpretation and imitation of Chinese and East Asian artistic traditions, particularly prevalent in decorative arts, lacquerwork, and furniture design from the 17th to the 20th century.

These tables typically combine a structural frame of cast or tubular brass with a wooden top finished in layers of pigmented lacquer, often decorated with hand-painted or gilt motifs.

Authentic pieces often show natural patina on the brass joints, hand-applied layers of resin or lacquer with subtle imperfections, and traditional joinery or construction methods appropriate to the mid-20th century.

Pair the table with neutral upholstery to let the patterned top serve as a focal point, and balance the ornate surface with minimalist styling objects such as plain ceramic vessels or stacked art books.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive pads that can scratch the delicate lacquer finish or strip the protective lacquer on the brass.
