Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French coffee table dates from 1920 in a mid-century French style. It comprises a white veined marble top resting upon a gilt brass frame with a gold and white colour scheme, featuring faux bamboo legs, an X-frame stretcher, and a small central finial on the stretcher. The surface displays natural grey veining throughout the white marble, while the metal frame exhibits a polished gold-coloured finish with segmented bamboo-style mouldings and spherical joint details. The rectangular table stands 44 cm high and measures 76 cm square. Suitable for placement in a formal reception room or a contemporary sitting space, this low table serves as a central surface for displaying books, decorative objects, or holding refreshments in daily domestic use. The compact proportions allow it to sit comfortably before a sofa or settee, providing a stable platform with its cruciform stretcher base while maintaining an open visual profile in the room.

FAQs

During the mid-20th century, French design houses produced metalwork furniture inspired by Neoclassical and Chinoiserie forms. Craftsmen frequently used gilded brass and cast metal to create simulated organic forms, such as faux bamboo, pairing them with natural stone tops like polished marble.

These tables typically feature a cast or tubular brass frame joined with screwed or welded joints. The metal frame is braced with cross-stretchers for stability, while a slab of polished marble rests securely within or upon the upper rim.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit solid joinery, natural weight from cast metal, and age-consistent patination on the brass. Examining the underside reveals cast details, structural reinforcement, and natural veining in the stone consistent with quarrying from the era.

A brass and marble table functions as a neutral central anchor in a seating area. Positioning it alongside contemporary upholstered sofas balances metallic tones with soft textiles, while the marble surface provides a durable display area for books and decorative objects.

Marble surfaces should be wiped with a pH-neutral cleaner and protected from acidic liquids that cause etching. The gilt brass frame requires dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and should be kept free from abrasive chemical polishes that can wear away the gilded finish.
