Georgian furniture, spanning the 18th century, is characterised by classical proportions, balanced symmetry, and the transition from walnut to mahogany as the primary timber. Pieces from this era often feature refined craftsmanship with understated classical detailing.

These tables are traditionally constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany or oak, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in drawers and turned central pillars supported by tripod legs. Brass fittings, castors, and key escutcheons are also common construction elements.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, such as hand-sawn timber marks and subtle asymmetries indicative of hand tools. Patina developed over centuries, along with shrinkage cracks and period-correct hardware, helps verify genuineness.

An antique pedestal table adds historical depth and warmth when contrasted against clean, modern architectural lines. It functions effectively as an accent piece next to a sofa, serving as a surface for lamps or curated decorative objects.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent cracking. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally apply a quality beeswax polish to nourish the wood and preserve the finish.
