This military walking cane originates from the Victorian period, dating to 1930. The piece comprises a silver pommel cap and collar paired with a warm brown hardwood shaft. Notable details visible include a swirl fluted pommel, a hallmarked silver cap, a silver collar, and a polished wooden shaft. The cane measures 96 cm high, 2.7 cm wide, and 5.1 cm deep, standing as a substantial tall item with a large wrythen silver knop, a strong and straight Malacca shaft terminating with its original oversize steel ferrule, and two striped bands around the stem. In a home today, this piece finds its place beside the front door as part of a gentleman's library collection. The knop bears the engraved text 'THE KINGS OWN' and measures 9.7 cm long with a maximum diameter of 5.09 cm, while the shaft at the base of the knop has a diameter of 2.72 cm. The London hallmark maker appears to be FD or RO followed by a Lion, Leopard, and the letter A denoting 1936, and the item was produced by Potter Aldershot, a maker still operating today.

Silver-mounted walking canes gained widespread popularity during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as symbols of status, rank, and elegance. In military contexts, officer walking sticks and swagger sticks served as formal uniform accessories denoting authority and discipline.

Traditional walking sticks are constructed using dense hardwoods such as oak, ebony, rosewood, malacca, or hazel for the shaft. Handles and pommels are frequently crafted from sterling silver, nickel, bone, horn, or carved wood.

Authentic silver components feature stamped hallmarks near the collar or pommel, including a makers mark, purity mark, assay office mark, and date letter. Inspecting these marks under magnification helps establish the exact year and origin of manufacture.

Walking sticks are commonly arranged in vintage umbrella stands, brass urns, or dedicated wall-mounted racks near entryways. They can also be displayed alongside books and framed maps on shelving units within a home office or hallway.

Keep the wood shaft nourished with periodic applications of beeswax polish, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners. The silver pommel should be cleaned gently with a soft microfibre cloth designed for silver to remove tarnish without stripping natural patination.
