We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Needlepoint and wool work embroidery, often referred to as Berlin wool work, gained immense popularity during the Victorian era when pre-printed grids and dyed wools became widely accessible for home crafters.

These pieces typically utilise a wool yarn, known as tapestry wool or Berlin wool, stitched onto a stiff plain-weave foundation fabric such as canvas or scrim, and are commonly housed in turned wooden frames.

Authenticity is assessed through the examination of the yarn fibres under magnification, the type of backing canvas, hand-forged or early fastening hardware on the frame, and natural ageing characteristics of the materials.

Such works can be mounted on a neutral wall as part of a curated gallery display to introduce tactile warmth, texture, and historical contrast to modern minimalist spaces.

To prevent fading and fibre degradation, antique textiles should be kept out of direct sunlight, displayed in stable indoor humidity conditions, and cleaned only by professional textile conservators.
