Description

A lovely antique mahogany gallery top wine table. This is in the classic Georgian style & dates from around the 1930’s.

The quality is great, this is beautifully made and is a very useful size. The circular top has a gallery edge, this sits on a splayed tripod base with claw and ball feet.

We have recently had this re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age, with just some minor wear to be seen here and there beneath the polish.

Wine tables emerged during the 18th century as small, portable occasional tables specifically designed to hold glasses and bottles of wine during social gatherings in drawing rooms and parlours.

Authentic period pieces are typically crafted from dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany, featuring a turned central pedestal, tripod cabriole legs, and frequently a raised spindle or fretwork gallery edge.

Authentication relies on examining timber grain, hand-cut joinery, patination, and the presence of shrinkage cracks or tool marks consistent with period hand tools rather than modern machinery.

These versatile pieces function effectively as compact accent surfaces next to armchairs or in empty corners, pairing traditional timber tones with modern minimalist or eclectic furnishings.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
