A terrestrial globe is a spherical model of the Earth, historically used for educational, navigational, and decorative purposes to depict geographical features, political boundaries, and trade routes.

Traditional globes often feature paper gores mounted on a sphere made of plaster, papier-mache, or composite material, supported by a metal meridian ring and a wooden or cast metal base.

Age is typically identified by examining the geopolitical boundaries, country names, and cartographic styles printed on the paper gores, as well as the materials and construction techniques of the base and meridian.

An antique globe adds scholarly character and warmth when placed on a bookshelf, desk, or side table, complementing traditional study, library, or eclectic living spaces.

Preservation requires keeping the item away from direct sunlight to prevent paper fading and ink degradation, maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth.
